SAVANNAH – Marguerite Stallings McLeod passed away on April 27, 2010 after a long and happy life of 92 years.
She was the daughter of Judge William and Mellie Stallings of Soperton, GA. She graduated from Wesleyan College in 1936, taught school for a few years and worked in a war ration book office. She moved to Savannah in 1945 to work for the Central of Georgia Railroad where she met her husband, William R. McLeod.
In 1963, she and her family moved to Chattanooga, TN where she enjoyed living and working for 21 years. In Chattanooga, she was a school librarian where she shared her deep love for books with children. After returning to Savannah in 1984, she and William enjoyed resuming many old friendships and making many more new friends. She and William enjoyed traveling and shared an enthusiasm for learning, history, music, art and their life together. Marguerite was an active member of the First Christian Church, several bridge clubs and other charitable groups.
She is survived by her son, Will McLeod of Arlington, VA, a daughter, Margo McLeod, of Savannah and a niece and nephews. She was a gentle, considerate and loving friend and mother who touched many lives and whose curiosity and love of learning never stopped. She loved words, books, trees, music and her many friends. She will be greatly missed.
